In the last few years, wireless announcements seem to less thrilling than they used to be. However, there are some early adopters that love to know what is coming out. In recent years, announcements have been lackluster. From Apple devices only working on improving their cameras to Samsung working on an ill-conceived folding phone. However, for those of you chomping at the bit for the latest Samsung device, you only have to wait until next month.
Over the weekend, it was leaked that a new announcement would be coming on February 11, 2020. That is a little over a month away for those of you that can’t do math. After the date was discovered early Saturday thanks to an unlisted video, Samsung has now confirmed that its Unpacked event will be held that day in San Francisco.
For those of you that follow the numbering scheme, rumors (according to The Verge) suspect that instead of being called the Galaxy S11, they may go for the S20. God knows why. Ever since Microsoft skipped Windows 9 for Windows 10, as well as Apple skipping the iPhone 9, everyone has to jump to the next big number.
Judging by the video above, it seems that Samsung is trying to get the rumor mill running. However, you most likely won’t have to wait until the February 11 because much of the surprise will be ruined by official leaks of what to expect the day of.
Some early rumors note that the S11 (if it is called that) will have a center-aligned hole-punch selfie camera. It will, also, have minimal top and bottom bezels, and a large rear camera housing. That seems to be the fad now, as we have seen it with the new iPhone 11 and the Pixel 4. You can get a glimpse at the tweet below.
Some of the other rumors point to it having a higher 120Hz refresh rate and will have advanced camera features, as well as 8K video recording. If that is the case, there better be improved storage capacity for the device or allowing a high capacity SD card to house that dense video.
Obviously, all of this is speculation at this point. We will have to wait about a month until we know what is officially coming to the device. However, if you recently picked up the S10 – there will not be any need to rush out and get the S11. However, if you have an S8 or S9, you may want to consider the upgrade. That is my standard advice. None of these are worth grabbing when they come out when you just picked one up. It is the way.
